TifloInnova 2005

TifloInnova was held for the first time in Madrid, (18-20 November 2005) with the aim to display the latest innovations, products and trends within the world market of assistive technology for people with blindness or visual disabilities at that time. A total of 32 manufactures (9 national and 23 from abroad), located in 30 booths, had the opportunity to exhibit their product and service range. Also 3 manufacturers of mainstream technology displayed their products already adapted for the blind. Vodafone España and Sicsa Futuro collaborated with ONCE and sponsored TifloInnova 2005. Over 2000 people attended this international exhibition, most of them ONCE affiliate members, Orientation and Mobility officers, Braille and Typhlotechnology Instructors and other professionals related to ONCE. There was also a high number of representatives from leading external companies and delegates from international associations of the blind. Furthermore, other complementary activities aroused a lot of interest among visitors:
    • Conferences:There were three roundtables -open to all public- with the participation of keynote speakers and professionals with sound knowledge and experience in this industry, who addressed issues such as:
      • Accessibility and mobile phones services
      • Screen readers (PDA’s and computers)
      • Accessibility to home electrical appliances, Digital TV and other services.
    • Panel discussions for users of typhlotechnology (pre-registration was requested) covering a variety of interesting topics that included:
      • Internet as a tool for people with blindness or visual disabilities: Accessibility.
      • Adapted games
      • Removal of barriers to promote personal independence.
      • Access to leisure and culture.
    • Practical demonstrations: The Italian enterprise Arca Progetti SRL presented and featured the European projects LAMBDA and BME, mathematics and music editing programs (ONCE is a partner in both consortiums).

Finally, it must be mentioned that TIFLOINNOVA 2005 was widely covered by some leading press and broadcasting media (ABC, El País, TV1, TV2, Cadena Cuatro, etc).
